HICKS, II, Dana M. DANA M. HICKS II Dana M. Hicks II. 82, of
Dunwoody, passed away August 23, 2014. Born in Charleston, WV, on August
8, 1932 to Dana M. Hicks Sr. and Thelma Hicks and was raised in Webster
Springs, WV. Dana was known by his many friends and family as Dan or
"Hacker" based on his love for golf. Dan completed high school in
Wiesbaden, Germany in 1950. He travelled extensively across Europe and
the U.K. as a young man. At West Virginia University, he studied
business, was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, and graduated in
1954. He was a 4 year varsity letterman in golf and truly loved the
game. After graduation from WVU, Dan served in the U.S. Air Force for 4
years as an Intelligence Officer in Washington DC. During these years,
he met and later married Bernice Dallenbach in 1956. Dan earned his MBA
from George Washington University in 1959. Dan initially worked for
Mobil Oil Company, Alcoa Aluminum, and Piedmont Plating before starting
Dana Hicks Company in 1963, a Manufacturers Representative Company
serving the aviation industry with industrial ladders, work platforms
and LEKTRO air tugs. Dan loved to travel. He had a photographic memory
of autobahns, cities, villages, restaurants, pubs, museums and sights
all over the world. He loved golf and played many rounds with his close
friends at Dunwoody Country Club. He was an active member at Peachtree
Presbyterian Church. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years,
Bernice "Dal" Hicks , his four sons - Dana III and his wife Caroline,
David, Randall and wife Graeme, and Dale and wife Kim. Dan has five
loving grandchildren - Mariclaire Hicks, Ian Hicks, Palmer Hicks, Parker
Hicks and Hunter Hicks. Dan was the head of a kind, compassionate,
intellectually stimulating and principled home in which he raised his
family. Dan and Dal also opened their home often to visitors with
Friendship Force from all over the world. A Memorial Service and
Celebration of Dan Hicks's life will be held on Saturday, September 6,
2014 at 11 am at Peachtree Presbyterian Church at 3434 Roswell Road in
Kellet Chapel. A reception will follow at PPC in the Williams Center. In
lieu of flowers, the Hicks family encourages friends to make a
contribution in honor of Dan Hicks to American Diabetes Association.
