Sally Koch Revenson
REVENSON, Sally Koch, died July 8, 2009. She was an Advocate for Children and Volunteer in Public Education. A private cremation was performed as requested by Sally. There will be a memorial service at Congregation Or Ami, 9400 W. Huguenot Road, Richmond Va. on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 1 p.m. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Steve; their three children and spouses, Sandra and Chuck Davis, Sam and Allison Revenson, Susan and Martin Hawes; grandchildren, Rachel, April, Spencer, Lauren and Jonathan; great-grandchild, Rick; brother, Joseph and his wife, Mary Jane; brother-in-law, David and wife, Linda, cousin, Janet Whitman and numerous other cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Col. and Mrs. Joseph W. Koch. A graduate of Fairfax Hall and co-founder with her husband of SIRCO Insurance Agency, she spent her entire adult life in service to children. Until the fall of 2008, she had served over 40 years as a weekly volunteer in the Richmond Public School System and attended numerous state and local school board meetings where she became a historian, sounding board and mentor to many board members. She also was appointed to a variety of State Board of Education committees. Closest to her heart were the children in the city schools, the teachers and principals she was honored to work with. There were few if any education issues she was not knowledgeable of. She also served as State Legislative Chair for the National Council of Jewish Women. On Yom Kippur Eve, she said to me that these are the words she wanted to be remembered by: "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much I had in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child." You are invited to attend Shabbat services with them that evening at Congregation Or Ami at 7:30 p.m. Shiva Minyan will be held Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Sam and Allison Revenson, 12512 Cutler Ridge Drive, Henrico Va. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Massey Volunteer Program (c/o Massey Cancer Center Library), 9000 Stony Point Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23235.
