GRANT, David Bruce 1944-2014

David Bruce Grant of Austin, Texas passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 7, 2014 at the age of 69. David was born June 12, 1944 to Col. Bayard V. Grant and Eula Janet Bruce Grant at the Army Air Force's Wright Field (now Wright Patterson Air Force Base) in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from General H.H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden Germany in 1962. Additionally, he proudly served in the US Army in Korea 1965-67 and in the US Army reserves 1967-1971. Following his military career, David worked as a computer programmer and information technology professional for various federal and state agencies in the Washington D.C. and Austin Texas, eventually retiring from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Austin. David was heavily involved in the Overseas Brats movement from its inception in the mid-1980s and was one of the founders of the General H.H. Arnold High School Alumni Association. He was always available to share his experience with others working to organize their own overseas school alumni groups. Additionally, David was proud of the years he spent as part of the team successfully promoting a documentary film about growing as a military brat, "Brats Our Journey Home." Through all of these activities it can truly be said that David Grant worked to bring people who had lost track of one another back together again. After retirement, David more than filled his time helping his friends; he was always truly there for a friend in need. He enjoyed himself by remaining active through the shooting sports and working on the family ranch outside of Seguin, Texas. He is survived by his sister Loraine Kay Grant Monahan (Lori) and husband Kevin of Caldwell County, TX, and cousin Stuart Monroe and wife Judy of NH. Other survivors include many close friends David considered and treated as brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. The memorial service for Dave will be held at Bella Sera restaurant (http://www.bellaseraseguin.com/) at 3003 N. Hwy 123 Bypass in Seguin, Texas 78155 at 1 pm, on Thurs. Aug 14th, 2014. The interment service will be at a future date and time to be determined in 2015 at Elmwood Cemetery in Barre, Vermont.

Was introduced to Dave by a mutual friend of his from his days in Germany, Got to know him well and see him as a brother in arms. We shared much in common and I was always impressed by his willingness to help out others at any time or place. My life and that of my family's was truly enriched by the friendship.
