Donald R. "Coach" Hall Jr., 54, of 300 Rockland-Nickleville Road,
Kennerdell, died at 3 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at his
residence. Born Dec. 7, 1947, in Sharon Grove, KY, he was the
son of Donald R. Hall Sr.
and Sybil Rager Hall.
Being from a military family, he lived his elementary years in
Hokaido Island, Japan, 1963 to 1965, attended Lawrence High
School in Falmouth, MA, graduated in 1966 from General H.H.
Arnold High School in Wiesbaden, Germany, then attended
Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, where he was a member of the
Aztec soccer team. He had lived in the Oil City area since 1970,
joining the Army National Guard Reserves that same year in
Pennsylvania, attended basic training at Fort Polk, LA, and
served for six years, worked for 13 years as distribution
supervisor for Quaker State Oil Corp. in Oil City and le" Quaker
State to serve as youth and athletic director of the Franklin
YMCA. During that period, he coached Rocky Grove soccer,
Christian Life Academy soccer, Oil City JV girls basketball and
AAU basketball. Over the years, he coached various elementary
and junior high school basketball teams and the Sportsworld
women's so"ball team, established the "Don Hall
Fundamentals Camps" for kids, joined Cranberry School District

in 1994 as athletic director, truant o#icer and head coach of the
Lady Berries varsity basketball team, baseball and track. He was
an active member of the Rockland United Methodist Church. an
avid Kentucky Wildcats fan and a friend and mentor to many.
He met his wife, the former Carol Winger, while attending
Asbury College in Kentucky, married Sept. 7, 1968, and she
survives, with two daughters, four grandchildren, one sister, her
husband and their children. He was preceded in death by his
Services will be held at the Rockland United Methodist Church
with the pastor, Rev. Joseph Kosarek, o#iciating, assisted by
Rev. Bradley Sickler, pastor of the Oil City Community Alliance
Church. Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery.
