Tempe - Whyte, Linda A. (Hutchinson), 57, of Tempe, Arizona, died suddenly in her sleep June 19, leaving her loved ones with aching hearts but also with treasured memories of her trademark electric smile, generous nature, sparkling eyes, and compassion for animals and people less fortunate than her. She gave and gave to others, especially to her husband of 29 years, Kenny Whyte, and her two boys, Rutger and Alex, who were her world. She was one of those amazing mothers who worked full time, put her own needs aside, and did things like Cub Scouts, school and church activities, crafts, volunteering, sewing, cooking fantastic meals, and ensuring her boys were safe, warm and loved. Linda had a soft spot for both cats and dogs and in the past volunteered at an animal shelter. Several rescue dogs (and the infamous litter of kittens) found a home with the Whytes. In the early 2000s, she worked tirelessly for the Make a Difference charity. She helped young girls in a group home garden and cook. Linda had a legendary and fiercely independent streak. She was tough. Born March 9, 1961, to Janet and Richard Hutchinson, Linda grew up in an Air Force family and lived for many years in the Omaha area. She earned her college degree in finance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, then headed west in 1987 to the Phoenix area to start her career. Tall and sculpted, she never lacked for dates, but her standards were high. It was Kenny who ultimately won her heart with his Minnesota charm and rock-solid ways. They married in 1989 and settled in Tempe, where she lived the rest of her life. Known for her work ethic and organizational skills, she had roles in corporate finance and accounting departments, including payroll, accounts receivable and managerial positions. She worked at Danka for a number of years. Linda may be physically gone, but her special light and that big smile of hers will be in our hearts forever. Linda is survived by her husband, Kenneth R. Whyte, and sons, Rutger and Alex, all of Tempe; father, Richard Hutchinson, of DuPont, Wash.; brothers, Steve Hutchinson, of Omaha, Neb., and Phil Hutchinson, of Redmond, Wash.; sister, Cindy Hutchinson, of Puyallup, Wash.; nephew, Ryan Hutchinson, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; niece, Kelsey Hutchinson, of Omaha; and dog, Sadeeki. Linda was predeceased by her beloved mother, Janet Hutchinson. We know Mom and Linda are now reunited and chatting away and laughing as they always did. A private family gathering will be held. In Linda's honor, please consider a donation in her name to Arizona Animal Welfare League, aawl.org.

Kenny:

We were so very sorry to learn of Linda's passing. Our heart breaks for you, the boys and your family. She was an incredible volunteer and a very special friend to Make A Difference. We have thought of her often over the years and will always remember what a caring, warm woman she was and all the fun and great times we had together. She will be missed!
